Novena to Our Lady
Undoer of Knots
For nine consecutive days, set aside a moment to meditate and pray, entrusting to Our Lady the knots that trouble your peace. Each day brings an intention, a brief meditation, and a specific prayer.
How to Pray
- Make the Sign of the Cross and quiet your heart for a moment.
- Read the day's meditation carefully, thinking about your own life.
- Pray the day's specific prayer, aloud or in silence.
- Close by praying an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.
- If possible, repeat the novena at the same time each day, for the 9 days.
Opening Prayer
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Mary, my Mother, I come today to place in your hands the knots of my life. You who have never scorned a request made in faith, look upon me with compassion and untie, one by one, the knots that keep me from living in peace and joy. May this novena be a time of renewed trust in your motherly love. Amen.
The 9 Days
1Faith and Trust
Meditation: At the beginning of this novena, we renew our faith. Just as Mary trusted fully in God's plan even without understanding everything, we are invited to trust that no knot is too great for a Mother's hands.
Prayer of the day: Our Lady Undoer of Knots, strengthen my faith in moments of doubt. Help me believe that, with patience and trust, every knot can be untied. Pray for me. Amen.
2Family Peace
Meditation: Families, so often marked by disagreements and hurt, also have their knots. Let us ask today for reconciliation and peace within our homes.
Prayer of the day: Mary, untie the knots of quarrels and resentment in my family. May love return to dwell in our home, and may we learn to forgive one another every day. Pray for us. Amen.
3Health of Body and Soul
Meditation: Illness is one of the hardest knots to bear, whether physical or spiritual. Let us entrust today our health and that of those we love to Mary's motherly care.
Prayer of the day: Lady Undoer of Knots, touch with your hands those who suffer in body and soul. Grant health, courage, and hope to all who trust in your intercession. Amen.
4Work and Livelihood
Meditation: Unemployment and financial hardship weigh heavily on the hearts of many families. Today we entrust to Mary our concerns about daily livelihood.
Prayer of the day: Mary, untie the knot of unemployment and financial hardship. Open doors, give me wisdom to seek them, and trust in God's Providence. Amen.
5Freedom from Addiction
Meditation: Addictions bind and enslave, often silently. Let us ask today for freedom from all that separates us from God and from those we love.
Prayer of the day: Our Lady Undoer of Knots, untie the knot of addictions that imprison me and the people I love. Give us willpower and the grace to begin again. Amen.
6Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Meditation: Holding onto hurt is carrying a knot that weighs on the heart. Today we ask for the grace to forgive and, when necessary, to ask forgiveness.
Prayer of the day: Mary, teach me to forgive as your Son forgave. Untie the knot of resentment in my heart and grant me the peace that comes only from sincere forgiveness. Amen.
7Children and Youth
Meditation: Parents suffer when they see their children drift from the path of goodness. Let us entrust today our youth and families to Our Lady, Mother of all.
Prayer of the day: Lady Undoer of Knots, protect our children and young people. Untie the knots of disobedience and estrangement, and guide them always along God's path. Amen.
8Marriages and Relationships
Meditation: It was precisely through a troubled marriage that this devotion was born. Let us ask today for the healing and strengthening of relationships and marriages.
Prayer of the day: Mary, you who helped save a marriage through your intercession, help my relationship as well. Untie the knots of distrust and renew love and understanding between us. Amen.
9Thanksgiving and Perseverance
Meditation: We have reached the last day of the novena. More than asking, we thank Mary for her constant companionship and ask for perseverance to continue trusting, even when the answer is delayed.
Prayer of the day: Thank you, Mary, for walking with me these 9 days. Continue to untie, with patience, every knot of my life, and help me never stop trusting in your motherly love. Amen.
Closing Prayer of the Novena
"Most Holy Virgin Mary, our Mother who unties knots, untie the knots that keep me from being happy. I ask you to untie the knot of anxiety, the knot of fear, the knot of sadness.
Untie the knot of illness, the knot of unemployment, the knot of debt. Untie the knot of addictions, the knot of family quarrels, the knot of children's disobedience.
Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, with your hands of maternal grace, untie the knots of my life. Amen."
